Show your love in your proposal

Proposals may seem daunting, you want to make it special and memorable for your other half. Of course, you are also hoping they will say yes! Here are a few simple ideas if you are thinking about proposing this Valentine’s day! Location of your first date or where you first met This may seem like an obvious one but it is definitely popular for a reason. Proposing where you first clapped eyes on each other or spent time together can be very moving for both of you. The powerful presence of being there can really set the mood! Get the kids or pets involved Already have children or a beloved pet? Get them to help you pop the question! Make it a family occasion with printed t-shirts or signs. Beach Granted it may be a bit cold on the UK beaches at the moment but wrap up warm & it can be a beautiful setting for popping the question. Or if you are already going on vacation, a warm beach would be a perfect sunny location too. Music If you both have a song together then having a band, choir or singer playing your song is sure to be a winner! Want a more intimate affair? Play the song at home whilst asking that all important question! Play ring hide and seek We have all heard of the ring at the bottom of the champagne glass, but how about hiding it in a fortune cookie, bouquet, balloon or their favourite book! Party This may seem top much for the introvert in you, but if your other half loves being in the spotlight have a party and propose in front of all your loved ones. Cook Everyone has their favourite dish & what better way to be proposed to than when you’re chowing down on your favourite dish, cook for your partner then pop the question over dimmed lights & dessert! Relax If your both happiest laying in bed binge watching the latest episode of that hit TV show, then pop the question there! You do you! … and good luck! Trials & tribulations of a bride | Chapter One: Venue & Dates

Brides often ask us how to navigate the wedding world! Whether there are any tips or tricks and any mistakes to avoid. So we asked a bride to write a blog series on her experience in the wedding world, & this is what she wrote! (This bride is using a pseudonym to protect her identity whilst she is planning her own wedding & her blog will be posted through one of our admin accounts) Chapter 1: Venues & dates When he gets down on one knee the last thing going through your mind is Winter or Summer wedding? Church or registry? Big wedding or small? But it soon becomes one of your first stresses as the new bride planning a wedding! The first matter at hand was the size of wedding we would like. We decided to have a more intimate wedding with our close friends & family at the ceremony. We then created our guest list: 42 at the ceremony & 73 at the reception. This gave us a lot of availability with our choice of venues. We both felt pretty flexible on the dates we would like, but definitely wanted a date in a warmer month opposed to winter! The first venue we looked around was a Hall, although it was beautiful we didn’t feel it was right for us, & was a bit too dated for our vision. Next up was a beautifully renovated barn, & this is the place we feel in love with! The views were stunning, the food amazing & it just felt right! This was definitely the venue that stole our hearts & we were eager to book. We picked a date, a (hopefully) warm June wedding was in the diary. Now to send the invites… Grace A.

New dress styles

Do you like fresh styles straight off the runway? Designs that are unique? We got you! Here at Prima Donna we like to invest in our stock with new designs from the latest designers. Here are just some of our new unique designs: Petal skirt The ultimate fairytale skirt with new technology to create the perfect ‘va va voom’. The making of the skirt begins with a boned cone shape structure, like a petticoat under the dress. The material is then folded into the cone and fixed in place. This gives the illusion of petals with spectacular volume that holds. Dove neckline The dove neckline is a plunging neckline with a difference. There is a sheer material placed under the plunge giving the illusion of bare skin whilst still keeping you comfortable on your big day. Crystallier This style is red carpet ready! Strands of long embellishments are attached to the neckline and the back which move beautifully catching the light every time. The strands hang down to the waist and give you a 360 ° look that oozes with glamour. We like being one step ahead and bring the freshest styles from all over the world to Norwich for our brides. All these styles are now available in our new exclusive Tara Vani line, book an appointment here to come and try the dresses on!

Don’t fall for the fakes

You go to a shop & fall in love with a dress, perfect for a night out! But there is one problem: The price tag. So you look online and find it for half the price?! Yes please! If you’re lucky, after months of waiting it will arrive looking nothing like the picture. Sound familiar? This is commonplace in the wedding dress industry too! We hear the horror stories of fakes turning up looking nothing like the picture. So here are our top tips to help you avoid getting a fake wedding dress! SALES If you love a particular wedding dress or brand, ask in-store if there are any sample items on sale, these are from last season but it does mean you are getting a designer dress for a cut of the price! PRELOVED A good option if you are on a tight budget can be pre-loved dresses. They are more than likely once worn and often in ‘like new’ condition! Buying pre-loved means you know you are getting the quality and style that you expect from a genuine designer dress. CHECK THE SOURCE When shopping online check what country it is being shipped from. If it’s being shipped straight from China chances are your not getting the real deal & you will receive a fake wedding dress! For example, you buy a dress for a £100 online and it’s being shipped from China, it comes and as fakes often run really small, it doesn’t fit. You now need to return it, these types of companies will often bump up the price for the return postage often nearly half the price of the dress! So from a £100 dress, you are only going to get £50 back. They have made money and you have less left in your budget than you did in the beginning! DONT FALL FOR THE PICTURE When surfing online for a cheaper price, you will come across popular wedding dress designers photos being used on listings for a fake wedding dress. If you see this and the only photo is the professional stock photo then ask for more pictures of the actual dress. If you are on websites like Ali-express and shopping for a wedding dress, then you are going to get a fake. If you wish to shop online, go to your chosen brands website and it will often state what shops & online retailers stock their dresses.

How to pick the perfect wedding dress!

So..You have chosen the venue, your bridesmaids & what flavour cake you are having. But picking the perfect Wedding dress can sometimes feel like a whole different ball game & very overwhelming! Here are our expert tips to finding your perfect dress, from our real-life professional experiences! SUIT THE SEASON & LOCATION Having a rough idea about what weather to expect can be key to finding the perfect wedding dress. If your going aboard to a hot climate or are expecting a sunny British summer (fingers crossed), a lighter dress possibly with lace rather than embellishments can help you stay comfortable & stylish throughout the day. If you’re going to a cold climate or having a winter wedding, you can get away with something a bit heavier, with more layers & embellishments. SET A REALISTIC BUDGET Setting a realistic budget can stop the heartbreak of falling in love with a wedding dress way out of your price range. When going into a dress shop tell the assistant your rough budget to help them find & show you dresses within your price bracket. TRY TO START YOUR SEARCH AT LEAST 12-18 MONTHS BEFORE YOUR WEDDING  Finding the perfect wedding dress is no easy feat when it’s for the best day of your life, so leave a good amount of time for ‘saying yes to the dress’. This also gives the shop enough time for alterations & fittings, to get you looking amazing! USE YOUR PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE Use your previous experience of shopping for other types of dresses, you want to be confident on your big day. So for example, if your not usually confident in strapless its best to stick with what you do like I.e lace sleeveless. ENTOURAGE We recommend keeping your friends & family you bring to just a few main people. Having a lot of people can feel overwhelming & cloud your judgment on how you personally feel about your wedding dress. SUIT YOUR WEDDING STYLE If you have a strong theme going on for your wedding get a dress to compliment. Even if you don’t have a theme stay true to your own personal style & the vibe you are going for on your big day. DON’T WORRY ABOUT THE SIZE Does it really matter if your dress was a size 12 or 14, no one is going to see the size label! What they will see is how beautiful and well fitting the dress is. MOVE MOVE MOVE! Take a small walk around the shop to see if you are comfortable with the weight & movement of the dress, as weddings usually entail a lot of moving around & standing. KEEP AN OPEN MIND You may go into the shop think you want a princess style, sweetheart neckline wedding dress, & come out with a fitted mermaid style. Either way, keep an open mind as you may love the look of a style you wouldn’t have considered before trying on. PICK THE DRESS YOU LOVE We have seen all too often a person that loves the dress but are not happy with the people they chose to bring along opinions. If you love the dress that’s your decision, period. Book an appointment now, to find your dream dress! Also, go & check out our social media account, especially our Instagram for the visual beauty of our dresses!
